Ramen

Good ramen should have two elements: 1. strong and elastic noodles, 2. good soup. It may be difficult to find a good ramen shop, but suprisingly, good instant ramen is readily available. My favourite is by 菊水. I finish the soup to the last drop every time when I have the ramen.

The Best Coffee Beans

Cova's coffee beans are the best I have ever tried. They have a stronger aroma and bitterness when compared with the other brands. Although they are a bit pricer (HKD 125 per 250 grams), the taste is just unbeatable!

Coffee Beans

Illy's coffee is one of my favorites. The coffee brewed from the beans has a fine balance of aroma, bitterness, and acidity. The quality is always very consistent. Based on my experience, only Cova's is better than it, which is far more better than the UCC's and Lavazza's. The packaging of Illy's is also very simple and modern, which is much better designed than other coffee on the market.

Original Hong Kong Cafe

White Palace is an original Hong Kong cafe in Kowloon City. I would guess it is more than 40 years. The cafe has a unique wall decoration with diamond pattern. An open kitchen specially for noodles, which I have never seen in other places before, is located near the entrance. All the chairs and tables seem authentic to me. It is a pity that the food is only so-so, however, the staff are very friendly.

Tofu

The best tofu in the world is not made in China but in Japan. It is because Japan's tofu industy still uses the traditional skills and the best raw materials. We are lucky to have these finest tofus available at CitySuper.

City Landscape

R66 is the only revolving restaurant in Hong Kong. It is at the Hopewell Centre, Wan Chai. The restaurant has a five-star panaramic view of the city. The decoration is cosy; the food is only mediore. I go to R66 not for food but solely for the magnificent view!

Old-Style Dim Sum House

It is difficult to find an old-style dim sum house in Hong Kong. There is one in Wan Chai called 廣東茶居. The one I am talking today is 周記茶餐廳, which is in Hong Kong Chai Main Street. The dim sum house opens at 5:00 am and closes at 3:30 pm. Traditional dim sums are served, which are all home-made. There is a dim sum called 燒卷 in the house, which can be rarely found in other restaurants. The taste is good and the combination is unique. The size of 碟頭飯 is "hugh". I guess it doubles the size of the one we usually see. The house is well-packed in lunch time. The nostalgic atmosphere and the friendly staff make 周記 a wonderfully eating place.
